Lopud is an island 7.5 miles NE of Dubrovnik with only 250 inhabitants. It has been inhabited from ancient times but it has thrived as part of the Dubrovnik Republic.

On the island there are remains from Greek, Roman and early Slavic times, but 24 churches and monasteries remind us of times when it had 1.000 inhabitants, a shipyard, flotilla of 80 commercial ships, beautiful houses, palaces and gardens. Similar to Cavtat, Lopud is a nice and interesting place enjoying relative peace very near Dubrovnik.

There is a very nice bay and beach at the SE end of the island, but there are no organised facilities for anchoring overnight.
